Xiao Zhang

Xiao Zhang is now a master student in the School of Interactive Art and Technology at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. She holds a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Engineering in industrial design from Hunan University in China. Her background forms the basis for her research interests that span everyday design and appropriation, design thinking, and design process. In particular she is interested in how professional interaction designers’ first-person experiences contribute to their creativity, and to the design of products, systems and services in interaction design practice. Her practical focus applies these theoretical studies to exploring how to design everyday technologies that can support appropriation.

As an industrial designer, she has been involved in several industrial design projects, ranging from Televisions, Military Binoculars, NC Grinding Machines and Cars, for Chinese companies. She is also the designer of the PLAYPR logo.
